Can Sloppy Writing Kill a Career?

Can poor writing hold someone back from getting ahead in their chosen career?

I recently read this blog post from HubSpot and found it intriguing and oddly satisfying. I don't know how scientific the research is, but this study of 100 LinkedIn profiles led writers/researchers at Grammarly to conclude that sloppy writers tend to have more stagnant, less successful careers, regardless of their actual skills and talents.

While I don't wish a stagnant career on anyone, I do applaud the application of proper English wherever and whenever possible, especially in today's text and social media world where everything is abbreviated and no rules seem to apply.

According to the report, sloppy writers "suffer fewer promotions, flatter career trajectories, and lower positions in their companies."

Somewhere, an English teacher is smiling...
